SCS On The Road: Gamescom 2018

The biggest European gaming event is coming! We'll be there for you for the whole duration of Gamescom 2018, from 21st to 25th of August, 2018.

Last year's Gamescom was our first experience in the role of an exhibitor. We were happy to see long queues lining up to experience our sim rigs, even though we had our SCS Sim Trailer placed out in the scorching sun. (Take a throwback-look at a short report of Gamescom 2017)

We have decided to move our show under the roof, to a more visible location that would be more comfortable for our visitors and fans. We've partnered with our friends - German distributors of our truck sims Astragon Entertainment GmbH - to build a combined expo booth showing our trucks sims next to their catalog of games. Of course, we will be there in full force - a real truck with our SCS Sim Trailer attached. You will find us in the center of Hall 8.

We plan to show new stuff coming to both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2, so if you make it to Cologne, you can look forward to driving on some of the all-new roads. ;)

We would also like to invite press and all creators who make videos, stream, write reviews or publish articles dedicated to sim and driving games - we'll be happy to welcome you at our VIP meeting point!

Send a short email message (preferably written in English) with some info about you and your profiles, channels etc. along with the purpose of your visit to ontheroad@scssoft.com to let our SCS On the Road team know you'll be there and are interested in talking to our team. We'll do our best to reserve our time for you.

SCS On The Road: Master Truck Opole

Here we are with a recap of the most recent SCS On the Road trip plus an invitation to a new show happening in just a few days!

Our crew has just arrived from the 4th round of the FIA ETRC 2018 season held at Slovakia Ring. Even though it was a very hot weekend, the visitors there were really interested in our work and hundreds of people came to try our 4D Motions seats.

We had a great time and we'd like to send a virtual high-five to all who came to spend some time with us. A big thank you goes also to our helping hands - Czech Youtube/Twitch streamer Synecek11 of Gamekeepers_cz channel, and Viliam and Alex who reached us via email ontheroad@scssoft.com. If you'd like to become a "roadie" for one of our upcoming future events (list at the image below) too, give it a try and send us an email. You may also want to check out our recent post here.

The 4th round at Slovakia Ring was the last race weekend before a 5-week summer break in the FIA ETRC season. But that doesn't mean that we'll not be meeting our fans for such a long time.

We're packing our things as we write this, loading our SCS Sim Trailer with some merch gifts for the most dedicated fans, and very soon we'll be leaving Prague again. The destination is set to Master Truck Opole 2018 in Poland. Kudos to the team of IMGN.PRO who helped us a lot with making our participation at this event easier.

We know that our Polish fan community is huge. We hope that you'll be there with us too to witness all that this famous event has to offer. Come and visit the area of Lotnisko Opole-Polska Nowa Wieś from 20th to 22nd of July, 2018 and spend some time with us. We're looking forward to meeting you!

Highway 1 Reopening Today!

Players of American Truck Simulator can finally enjoy driving the full length of California Highway 1 again. Thanks to the heroic effort of the truck sim fan community during Operation Big Sur, the landslide was cleared up in record time and the new stretch of the road is ready for you.

As Highway 1 is back in full operation, your help in #OperationBigSur is no longer needed, and the World of Trucks event has been finally wrapped up. Massive thanks to all the participants! Just beware that Steam will automatically update the game today.

We have asked the fan community for 500,000 deliveries to get the job done and ultimately got even more. We have prolonged the event by a few extra days after the goal was reached, giving latecomers a chance to do their part, too.

With these numbers and with the high volume of your positive feedback, it is clear that the event was well accepted and that you would like to see more events engaging the community. It takes considerable effort across several company departments to set up an event and to create all the content, but we will surely do our best to listen to your voice and work on improving our event pipeline.

Together we made it! The scenic coastal road is clear again and the cool event rewards have been distributed to all who have taken part and qualified for them. We are delighted to see that the event truck paint jobs are proudly worn on so many of your trucks!

500K!

Operation Big Sur, our first World of Trucks event with a shared goal for the player community, has been a huge success. Players of American Truck Simulator have exceeded the number of 500,000 deliveries required to clear up and re-open the section of California Highway 1 blocked by last year's landslide at an incredible speed. We are happy to confirm that the bulk of the work is complete now, and after a short inspection by the authorities, the road will reopen soon!

We know that the truck sim fan base is very active, but we have been still surprised by the enthusiasm and commitment of the community. Immediately after the event's launch, thousands and thousands of individual players, as well as many VTC's, came to help, often going beyond the requested quota. Our twitter with the #OperationBigSur tag and all social media have gone ballistic with so many reports and cool pictures illustrating the effort. The strong team spirit has been raised even more by a steady stream of music carefully picked for you by our friends at TruckersFM radio.

Thanks, everybody, and congratulations! Our system should now automatically grant all the event participants who qualify (with at least 5 deliveries completed) the second part of the reward - a unique paint job commemorating the big task we have pulled off together.

To allow the road inspectors enough time to do the job right, and frankly, to give the last chance to finish their deliveries to many players who have approached us in the past couple of days, we are not shutting down the event system yet. Your speed has taken by surprise not only us, but also many other fellow truckers, and we have received a ton of requests to keep registering the deliveries for a time even after the 500K mark is crossed.

If you have finished your 15 deliveries, enjoy your reward now, and relax at last - there are many more great routes in American Truck Simulator (and Euro Truck Simulator 2) that you can now explore stress-free again!

On the other hand, if you are a couple deliveries short of your personal goal, we are still giving you a chance to earn your reward, too. The event system will keep registering Operation Big Sur deliveries until July 15, 23:59 UTC. The road should be reopened the next day with an automatic American Truck Simulator game update.

SCS On The Road: Slovakiaring

In a couple of days, our SCS On the Road crew will pack again and set the compass to a new destination - the Slovakiaring - for the 4th round of the FIA ETRC truck racing championship. We can't wait to meet with all our local fans there. See you all in the Fan Village, just like usual!

Let us whet your appetite with a short photo report from the previous race at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany. It was a very busy long weekend for our team there. Three days full of trucking, with crowds of people interested in our games. We met a lot of fantastic fans and we'd like to say thank you to all who had come to visit us.

Our motion seat rigs are proving so attractive that Krone Trailers wanted an extra motion seat for their booth at Nürburgring, playing a custom version of our game with an advanced look at their trailers included. It was a pilot project, but we really like the idea that in the future the manufacturers of trucks and equipment would be keen to use our games as a demo platform for their products at public events. It would definitely raise the awareness and profile of our games even higher.

We had a really cordial meeting with Jessica Lynn and her band. Stay tuned as more info about our future cooperation is coming. It was a hectic weekend but we loved every single second of each one of those days!

Make sure to follow our live feed about what's happening at SCS Sim Trailer on our Twitter and Instagram profiles.

ATS: Oregon Video Coverage

Just as we did with the videos of revisiting northern Germany in ETS2, today we'd like to bring you also the in-game footage of Oregon, which we've shown during our second live developer stream on Steam last week. (If you would like to watch the recording of the whole stream you can do it here.)

Please bear in mind that these videos are straight from our development labs and that the content shown is still very much "work in progress."

SCS On The Road: Nürburgring

It's time to gather the On The Road crew again and bring the SCS Sim Trailer to its next stop - the famous Nürburgring race circuit!

This event is going to be held for three days, and we'll be there for the whole duration, of course. Everyone who's going to visit this place from 29th of June to 1st of July 2018 should definitely make a stop at our trailer!

You can look forward to trying out our games on our tuned 4D motion seats, having chat with our crew, and possibly earning a bit of our merchandise for driving in our sim. If you are a dedicated player with a lot of hours under your belt spent in our games, make sure to show us your profile on World of Trucks or your Steam profile - we may have something special for you. ;)

Nürburgring happens to be located in Germany, the home of Krone Trailers. As you are by now surely aware, we are cooperating with Krone on the production of our upcoming trailer DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. They seem to quite like our game; with our assistance, they plan to install yet another 4D motion seat as a part of their exhibition stand (in addition to the two seats in our sim trailer). You should definitely consider stopping by their presentation area as well, we hear that they will have a limited-series edition driver cap commemorating our celebration.

As always, we'll be reporting the event through our social media channels such as our Twitter and Instagram profile.

Operation Big Sur Starting!

Here we are with a World of Trucks event dedicated solely to American Truck Simulator! The most recent "Start Your Engines!" event related to our association with the FIA ETRC 2018 season roadshow attracted a lot of interest among the players. We were happy to see so many of you taking part in it, and we have high expectations again for our very first community event with a shared goal.

Many of you probably know about the Big Sur Landslide. It happened in May 2017 and made the Carmel-San Simeon Highway (a part of California State Route 1) unpassable. While the Caltrans workers and private contractors work seven days a week ever since to rebuild it as soon as possible, there is still enough of the landslide left for us. Let's help them and speed up the work! After all, we are talking 2 million cubic foot of dirt, rocks, sand, and mud.

Are you ready to join the Operation Big Sur? You can bet that along with that proud feeling of accomplishment there will be also some unique rewards for everyone who'll join us in this quest! Let's take a look at the rules and rewards:

Rules:

Using External Contracts deliver 15 cargos of material and equipment either TO or FROM Big Sur Landslide on California's Highway 1 to do your part and mark your personal contribution in the effort to restore the scenic coastal road.

This is also a global trucker's community project: In order to complete Operation Big Sur and open the road in the game, the entire American Truck Simulator trucking community will need to make at least 500,000 deliveries. You can track the community progress on the front page of the World of Trucks.

If you go beyond the required personal quota, your effort will still be counted towards the community goal completion.

Rewards:

For doing your part and finishing 15 deliveries, you will receive a cute "Plush Excavator" cabin toy and an awesome "Juggernaut" paint job.

When the community goal is accomplished, everyone will receive a memorial paint job "Operation Big Sur". However, in order to qualify for the community reward, you must have completed at least 5 event jobs.

All rewards are tradable and marketable Steam Inventory items.

Ready? It's time to put on the hauling pants and hop in the cabins of our diesel beast. Meeting point - the Big Sur Landslide!

This is a community event, and we hope for the various fan communities around the globe to feel that they are all a part of the united effort! We will be looking forward to seeing your screenshots of the event shared on social media, too. We have once again partnered with Truckers.FM to entertain us all during the hauls, and they have some cool giveaways ready for reaching specific milestones on the general progress bar of Operation Big Sur (see World of Trucks frontpage). Just make sure to tag the pictures with hashtag #OperationBigSur and also notify @scssoftware and @TruckersFM.

Hungaroring weekend and beyond

It was an exciting weekend for the SCS On the Road team at the FIA ETRC races at Hungaroring, Hungary. We did not see much of the race, as we were always busy entertaining the visitors of our sim trailer. This is what we like the most anyway, interacting with people new to truck simulation as well as chatting with loyal fans of our games who come to see us in the flesh.

This time, our crew was complemented by help from the local truck sim fan community. It turned out to be a fantastic addition to our team, as both @John_Barth and @gebbbe are super experienced players of the game as well as really cool guys.

The kind organizers of the ETRC series managed to secure two seats in the pace truck opening the race for our team, and we were happy to pass the fun on to them, so the boys enjoyed a crazy once-in-a-lifetime moment.

Meanwhile, tons of visitors have come to experience our simulation, including professional drivers, and it is really music to our ears when we hear their praise.

The sunny weekend is over now, and we are on the way back to Prague. The race drivers and their teams are also on their way back to base or even to the next destination - Germany's famous Nürburgring. We thought this give us an excuse to prolong the current World of Trucks event by a couple of days. There are still close to three thousand people with 11 or 10 deliveries completed out of the total of 12 required to succeed in the event. Whether it's the football on TV or whether it was the nice weekend weather, these players haven't managed to find the time to finish their last job. We felt they deserve a chance, so we are prolonging the event till midnight of June 19th. We will draw the winners the following day.

Last but not Least... based on the experience of including the members of local fan community into our On the Road crew, we think we should do it again. We would like to ask for your help on the future events. If you would like to become a part of the show for a weekend along the core team from SCS Software, please let us know. Successful candidates are 18+, native speakers of the region of a given event, have great social skills, they should be knowledgeable players of our games and active members of the fan community, ideally with a history of involvement with our open or closed betas, or perhaps recognized creators from the modding community, so that we can do a little background check on them. If you are ready to sacrifice two days of your time, have the skill and the passion to become a "roadie" and become embedded into our crew, please get in touch with us by mail on ontheroad@scssoft.com.

SCS On The Road: Invitation to Hungaroring

In a few days, our SCS On the Road team will be packing and setting on a new journey. Destination: Hungaroring! We are joining the fun at the 2nd race of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship season on this famous Hungarian circuit.

We are trying something new for this event, and we are really looking forward to it. Our core team will be complemented by János and Gábor, two very experienced Euro Truck Simulator players and long-time passionate fans of SCS Software games. This should help us bridge the language barrier, and make it easier for us to deal with input and feedback from the local players.

Who knows, maybe YOU would be helping us on one of the following events? ;-)

As usual, everyone who's going to come to the races will have a chance to visit our Sim Trailer. Stop by and try our games on our tuned 4D Motion Seats or have a chat with our crew, and perhaps even get a piece of our cool merchandise to remember the day.

If you can't make it Hungaroring on 16th or 17th of June, keep an eye on our social media channels. We will be sharing some moments, pictures, and videos during the weekend.

To illustrate the atmosphere of the roadshow, here is a couple of images from two weeks ago, when our sim trailer traveled to the first race of the FIA ETRC 2018 season at Misano World Circuit, Italy. It was a really hot and sunny weekend and we all had a great time with tons of visitors interested in our work. You can find even more photos if you visit our SCS Software Facebook profile.

What a weekend!

This has been a very busy weekend for us and the truck sims fan community! You can watch @Squirrel live now on his Twitch channel playing Euro Truck Simulator, but the most massive community engagement heavy lifting this weekend was definitely provided by the team of Truckers.FM radio station. But first things first...

After updating both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 to version 1.31 earlier this week, finally we had an opening for another World of Trucks event. We came up with the idea to promote and celebrate the kick off of our "SCS on the road" series of trips for the 2018 season with an accompanying event. As you may remember from last year and from our recent blog posts, we have partnered with the organizers of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, and will be present at all their races with our games and our high tech gear, entertaining the visitors and providing an opportunity for our fans to meet us in person. The first round of races is taking place in Italy the next Saturday and Sunday, so it was perfect timing to launch our World of Trucks event a week earlier, and so we have done just that with our Start your Engines blog announcement.

We were hoping for solid interest from the community, after all, the rewards for completing the event are quite cool. To support the event and engage our fans even more, we have also discounted our our games and DLC on Steam - yeah, you should definitely consider checking out the list of discounted SCS stuff.

We were really happy to see the player numbers going up a lot over the weekend. For a brief moment, Euro Truck Simulator 2 has once again managed to peek into Top 10 games on Steam's Top games by player count list, which is a huge benchmark of our fan community's fantastic engagement.

We have felt massive contribution from Truckers.fm and TruckersMP communities. Big kudos belong to the team at Truckers.fm radio. They came up with their #WOTRweekend hashtag campaign on Twitter, and you should definitely check it out, as it leads to a huge amount of fantastic screenshots of Euro Truck Simulator 2 from happy players enjoying the event.

We believe that all this buzz must be music to the ears to the sponsors and supporters of FIA ETRC, @goodyear and @KroneTrailer, really demonstrating the potential of our games as a promo platform. It's not hard now to imagine that such cooperation can lead to some really cool officially licensed DLC appearing in the near future ;)

There is a way to measure the engagement actually and present the exact stats, and it may be worth showing on a screen grab. As of now, the buzz of the World of Trucks event as relayed by Truckers.FM and their twitter has accumulated over 3 million impressions, reaching over 200,000 people! Now that's some help! Thanks!

Meanwhile, we have been enjoying a very special weekend in our office. A couple of weeks ago, we have announced SCS Software's participation in the 4th edition of Open House Prague festival, inviting our fans to visit our office. This was a unique chance to see where our games are made and talk to members of the team.

Here is a small video to show what an open day at SCS looks like...

A lot of people have taken advantage of the opportunity, mostly locals of course, but we were happy to host a fan who decided to fly all the way from Moscow and back to meet us, and some more visitors from nearby countries, including over a dozen fans from Germany.

All in all, a super exciting weekend! We have been providing near-real-time coverage on SCS Software's Twitter and Instagram channels, as we usually do during multi-days events, so if you are interested in following our activities beyond just game updates and releases, keep an eye on them in the future.

The "Start your Engines" event will continue for several more weeks, there is still plenty of time to complete it. Good news for fans of American Truck Simulator - the next cool event will be focused solely on their game!
